Hello everyone!! I think it’s time for a little update on the Bettinger Alpine Escape in Sevierville, TN!
The first blog left off with revealing our purchase of 1.5 acres and meeting with our project manager to discuss details of our build! If you missed the first one you can click here:
This is the not so fun stage.. the part I know nothing about! I’m leaving most of these details to David and Casey (our project manager)..
I consider it not so fun because of all the permits, rules, laws, regulations … figuring out all the technical stuff you have to abide by but see little physical progress. However, they are the most important steps that can’t be skipped or half done!
First on the schedule is to get the septic completed due to it’s location and access to the approved location from the main entrance of our property. Septic permit obtained, check!
May 5th, Casey gets us on the septic schedule! Yay! … The septic crew should be starting in a week! …then rain holds up a week.. and I think it’s around June 3rd when the excavators show up on property.. Well … a few pins from the previous survey can’t be found. Of coarse they are the ones we need to get started! .. The drain fields of our septic need to stay a specific distance away from our property line.. can’t start without those measurements … 😟
Thankful to be paying Casey for this part! He contacted the previous surveyor, he will be out to see if he can find the pins.. We are held up a few more weeks waiting for the survey.
Wednesday June 15, Casey spoke with the surveyor and he will be out next Tuesday the 21st.. 🤞🏻let the excavator know the same.
June 21 .. and the survey is complete! We officially have the green light to start septic! Now to wait for the crew to finish up their current project to get back to our property!
June 24, excavator says he should be there Tuesday or Wednesday! and then there’s rain.. so a few more days needed to finish the property he is at..
Friday, July 1 is day 1 of septic digging! Happy 4th of July weekend!! Tank is set, and it’s the holiday weekend.. next week they’ll be back to finish up the septic!

July 6th.. update, the drain field should be in today if the rain holds off this afternoon! Inspection tomorrow then cover!

Well that was fast once they were able to get in there!!

July 8th, septic passed inspection! All covered and ready to go!
NEXT.. cutting down the hill for the house!
Monday July 11 we get pictures of a nice flat area for our home! It is ready for concrete/block crew!
This would be standing at the front of the house looking towards the backside of the house:

and the standing at the back left corner looking towards the right side..

There is no update with the mountain view towards the front 😜 We’ll get that once we have an official foundation set!
While this has been a process, and seems like little is seen plenty of work has been done behind the scenes! Thanks to Casey for keeping it in line. We think we have things all lined up and the paper work in check to keep moving as long as weather permits crews to work! Tennessee has seen many rainy days lately, maybe it could hold off a little now! 🧐
We knew it would seem like forever to see a structure, but all of the wait will so be worth it!! and it really hasn’t been forever .. it could be way longer in reality than it has been.. but we all know when we are anxious to see it seems like forever!
What have we been doing here at home while they are working hard in Tennessee!?
Putting together our end of the deal! My favorite part!!…
There are a few items we are purchasing with longer lead times.. The sinks I want for kitchen and bathroom are 30 days plus shipping time! I’m getting them ordered! I don’t want sinks holding us up later!
Want a sneak peak of them!?….. maybe!?Ok I am excited to share a few fun things and it’s hard keeping so many ideas a secret so let’s see a few!!
Kitchen sink 😍

and the bathroom sink… 😍

Both are officially ordered!! Now another wait for their arrival…
hmmm.. I need to see something!! Like have something here at my house that is going into the house!! It’s been months… I just need to buy something…
👀 there’s an Amazon deal on my favorite brand of dishes!! Strawberry Street! Love them! Found my first set of bowls in this brand at TJ Maxx a year ago.. they are my favorite at home!! I want them in our 2nd home for sure!
They are Amazon Prime ..3 days later.. they arrive!!

These are set up for show on my dining table at home.. not the same one that will be in the airbnb! BUT the dinnerware - 6 of each item (plates, bowls, silverware, cups, serving bowls x2) will be saved in boxes until our airbnb is complete! Dishwasher and microwave safe!

To be honest, I really wanted a blue set of dishes to add an accent color.. but I decided to go with white. I have 3 kids.. they break things.. it will happen.. likely a lot I’m sure.. so my practicality thought was, white can be replaced easier than matching colors. I will be sure to get color in the kitchen in other ways!
I’ve picked up a few random items here and there.. thinking buying here and there will be best.. or I might later find out it wasn’t a good idea.. lol we shall see!
Amish Country buy:

and an Aldi find, Aldi finds are the best!

a 2’x3’ rug.. I have a few ideas for this rug.. likely in the loft but we will see where it ends up, who knows!
That is all I have for now.. AND then David started.. that’s why I hadn’t started yet.. yea, believe it or not once I start, he’s worse than me… you want to see…
Now we have 2 TV’s and a security system purchased .. my items weren’t that $$ 🤣 Prime day had deals we couldn’t pass on!

I mean TV‘s are important! 😂
The 50” TV will be in the living room and a 32” TV for the loft.. I will say.. he got an awesome deal, so we will deal with storing giant TV boxes for how ever many months!
Well that is all for now! We are currently waiting on the foundation to get started.. once the foundation is complete we should see things moving a little faster.. pending weather, disasters, and all the things we can’t control! I hope to be back soon photos of a foundation!!
