Buckwheat 100 GNCC October 2021

We are now into the 2nd weekend of October.. yep 2021 is still flying right by as we scramble through these last 2 races and keep up on school, work, camper packing, cleaning, bike fixin’.. don‘t even ask about the inside of our house at this point! 😅

This weekend we are off to the Buckwheat 100 in Newburg, WV for round 12 of the 2021 GNCC!

The Buckwheat 100 is a new track for us! GNCC ran it in Nov 2020 as make up last year.. but micros didn‘t count towards their year points, it was cold, camper went to storage.. we were done for the year!

Thankfully the race bike has ran awesome since being at the shop over the summer! The last race it was the giant e-bike that let us down.. David was able to order a derailleur and get it fixed in the last 13 days! 😅

THURSDAY

The boys are at school. I am packing the camper.. throwing everything in this time of year! It‘s cooling down a lot when the sun goes down.. extra blankets, pants, gloves, hats, sweat shirts, jackets… SHORTS.. for those 3 hours in the afternoon when its too hot for pants! 😒 yea thats mainly for Hayden.

David is working from his office in the basement.. giving me times of when to be finished.. he likes to hook up, move to the lower garage and load bikes during his lunch break. That way when he‘s done working we can head out quickly...our hillside of a yard prevents us from loading the hauler part when parked at the house.

4:00pm, I picked the boys up from school, David is finished working and we are ready to roll out on a 3 hour drive! We’ll pick up dinner on our way.

8:00pm We are in the gates looking for a place to park in the dark.. we really don’t like pulling into tracks at dark! It’s so hard to see how the ground lays and where to park.. especially since we haven‘t been here before. David is talking to our race friends that have offered space for us to park beside them! It is up on the flat of a hill.. nice are with good space behind the campers for the kids to play.

Set up.... not too bad because it is pretty level. WOA WATCH WHERE YOU ARE STEPPING!! This track is…. in a cow pasture! The cows have been moved out BUT their left overs are scattered all around! 💩 Please don‘t drag the manure into my camper 😩 I can handle mud but please no 💩 smell 😅😳!

It is chilly out tonight .. Luke, Lynlee, and I don’t like to be cold so we are hanging out in the camper with the furnace running!

David and Hayden are visiting with our race friends that we parked with the Stats.

Not too late of a night.. David is working from the camper tomorrow, and we were all up early today! Goodnight 💤

FRIDAY

Good Morning! The sun is shining ☀️ and it is warming up nicely! David is working in the truck until everyone is awake. This is the best kind of camping weather for boon-docking! Don’t have to run our generator all day to run the AC .. warm enough we don’t need the furnace.. open all the doors & windows, put the gate down.. live outside 😍

Yes this is the best for me with Lynlee‘s age!! We can put the gate down, she loves that she’s outside.. and I don’t have to continuously tell her No.. No… Can‘t go there.. can’t be in the road girl! I can brew my coffee and drink it to! 🤣

Now that it is daylight we can check out the area! We love the area we are parked! The start is across the road over the hill.. that is nice!! and the finish, vendor row and all that isn‘t far back down the road.

At least you can see these now! A neighbor brought a poop scoop shovel.. they camped here last fall so they came prepared! Thankfully they let is all use it to clean up our area.. 😅 now it‘ll be less likely to be tracked into the camper!

David is tired of working in the truck, so we set up office outdoors..

While Lynlee was napping I took a bike ride to check out the setup here.. down vendor row, checked out the finish.. over by pro pits, back up the road over by the start.. The start here looks pretty awesome.. you can see them more than usual!

David says there is rain coming in this evening.. and through the night… NOT just a shower … like 1/2 inch- 1 inch or something like that!? 😳 … that could make for a messy race morning!?

Well at least we are parked up on the hill and not far off the gravel road.. we don‘t have to worry much on that part!

3:30pm David is done working.. him and Hayden can go get the track biked before the rain starts.

Lynlee, Luke, and I are truly just chilling on the camper porch.. such a nice day to enjoy.. in a few hours thats going to change quick!

David and Hayden return from biking the track.. Hayden is all excited! He says the track is awesome and will be really fun!

Negative Nancy that hates mud overhear saying no its not going to be after we get all this rain tonight! I don’t even know if I want to race if its a mess …the usual.. (he always says this but if you‘ve followed along with our racing over the past few years.. we’ve seen plenty of mud 🤣) and we all know Hayden and mud are best friends! Like he could be in a dessert and come back muddy!?

We clean up tonight.. put all the chairs in, bikes inside the hauler.. its almost like packing up to leave when that much rain is coming.

The hauler is full.. Luke‘s bed has to stay up when we do this so he’s sleeping on the couch tonight. It’s not fair he can‘t sleep on them top bunk with Hayden 😢.. it’s a queen bed why not mom!? Luke.. the kid that gets hit in the face or lands on his face every time he gets hurt.. sorry, but you’re banned from top bunks until your 18!? 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

It starts raining pretty good around 7-8:00 and we are inside for the night..

11:00pm …. vvvvrrrrmmmmvrrrmmmm.. or something like that!? whatever letters you would use to make the sound of a dodge ram spinning!? They are stuck on the road right in front of our truck .. sitting and spinning.. they have a trailer on.. it takes a while but finally we don‘t hear them anymore.. hopefully they made it somewhere... and then again we hear another one… it’s getting messy out there 😳!

The gates close at 11:00pm so hopefully that’s all the action for the night so we can get rested for this mud race! GOODNIGHT💤

SATURDAY

7:00am … Good Morning, It is RACE DAY! Nope the sun isn‘t shinning this morning! It is still raining but not pouring.. kinda a steady mist to a light rain.

8:50am Hayden is off to the line up before the line up. David has the umbrella to keep him dry as possible. Thankfully, we are right across from the start so we can stay dry and hope it stops before the race starts. It is supposed to clear out soon!

… at least it isn‘t a downpour! and it isn‘t too cold.

Luke, Lynlee, and I head over to stand at turn 1.. the rain is letting up and looks like the sky is clearing off! Yay!

They say the prayer.. National Anthem.. Teeeeeennn Seconds!

and then they are off……

. … well… no bright orange helmet.. OH, yep there he is!.. sitting on the line.. .. yet again this year.. 😩 I don’t really know why.. I never know if it‘s the bike or Hayden.. as you can hear the disppointment in my voice.. “go bub go” at the end of the video.. obviously a huge row of quads again today! I’m not disappointed at Hayden as it may not be his fault.. just the fact, there‘s another almost last start to add to the books of 2021! Really, we knew starts were going to be a challenge for him this year, but was hoping by the end of the season he‘d have it figured out..

Here comes David on his bike.. what happened today!? He dunno if it is Hayden or the bike but pretty sure it is just Hayden having trouble with the dead engine starts.

David says he might as well go to the finish and sit.. I said just go ride and check on him.. he races hard he’ll get back up there! He is frustrated more so that he knows how much better he can do.. because we’ve seen it. This is where we are different.. David: mess up start over, you’re screwed… Me: Can’t redo the start, but sure can learn what to do to make the best of the rest of the race.. my motto is #dontgiveup! Finishing 20th would be better than giving up, learn from mistakes to make yourself better!

Ok, so at the start he took off in 27th out of 28! .. I’m just going to cross right over and hang out at the finish .. I don’t see many other places to watch easily with the stroller and mud! I’ll be there to check on scoring.

Lap 1 …. he checks in 19th! Well he‘s already better than 20th! David says he is definitely riding like he‘s out to win trying to get back up there..

Lap 2 checks in at 17th.. clean lap.. keep it up!!

Lap 3 checks in 13th .. 32 seconds behind 12th! another clean lap! Wow! Impressive! Now I’m nervous because he’s rippin’ and afraid there’ll be a tree incident.. just because he has made it from 27 to 13 in 3 laps! and we know the trees are the 2nd issue this year!

Sorry that’s David‘s video.. he wants videos but also trying to watch 😂 he usually ends up videoing the ground!

Lap 4 checks in 12th, 3 seconds behind 11th! He made the white flag! 1 more lap!

Here he comes! umm, I think he’s in the top 10!? If I haven‘t missed one the last in his class to check in was 8th!?

Through the checkered flag and #721 - positon: 9!!

We are really excited with that finish today! Pretty awesome to move up 18 places in a 1 hour race!

I dunno about anyone else but after all that I am starving! We head back to the camper for food and out of these muddy clothes!

It looks like the rain has cleared out for the day, but it is a little chilly with the clouds hanging around.

David and Hayden take off to watch watch the Pro race. Lynlee is ready for a nap .. she needs to go in out of the wind and warm up..so once again this year I hang out at the camper for the afternoon. Sometimes I get bored.. but this weekend this is nice.. cover up with a blanket and just sit ….

Slam, Bang, Crunch!!!!

😳 That sounded bad.. I’m scared to look.. something definitely crashed into something.. Nurse instincts I have to look.. what if someone is hurt 😳😰…

OH NO! A camper just slid into the side of a van, sliding the van into the red truck.. The van is sandwiched between the camper and red truck shown above. This is right behind our camping area.

THANK the good Lord above NO ONE was injured! There had been small children playing over there all morning!

It is hard to tell from the photo, but the road is actually a bit of a hill that is very slick from all the rain. Right before this truck and camper tried to pull through here there was a vehicle pulled out by the GNCC staff.

Once this truck and camper took off they blocked this section of the road to keep others from getting stuck/sliding.

Then the guy in the black vehicle you can see in the corner of the photo gets in his vehicle laughing. Turns it around and gases it to try to show he can make it or maybe he wanted to get stuck!? I dunno what his point was.. BUT I call that idiotic as seeing he just watched all of the above happen! What happens!? Of coarse he goes completely sideways sliding.. all but into the front of the van that has already been sandwiched 🙄! After a few more tries, but keeps sliding closer to the van he decides to back up. Gets all 4 tires back in the grass, then leaves in the opposite direction! 🙌🏼 Bravo buddy! Good point you just proved!

Thankfully again, no one was hurt. Now there is ribbons tied to objects to block off the road completely! Thanks GNCC staff for keeping us safe!

Well that made for an interesting afternoon.. so much for relaxing in my chair! Lynlee is now awake.. David and Hayden just pulled back in on their bikes.. pro race is over.

Now it is time for Luke to get ready for the Stacyc race! Let’s go #210! He’s raggin on his brother.. I’m gonna have a good start not like Hayden.. 🤭

He is ready!! They do the Pledge of Allegiance, say a prayer for the little ones.. and Teeeeennn seconds!

Five laps today for the 5 year olds! They are serious and having a great time out there owning the track!

Luke pulls of track... ”That was an awesome start I had! I think you’ll have to get me a new toy for that!” 🤣… That was awesome Luke, good job! How about another fire with Smore‘s!? Alright we are golden!

Saturday evenings a lot of the ATV racers head home..we like to stay until Sunday.. we already paid so might as well enjoy the whole weekend!

Back go the camper to get a fire going!! The neighbors have had a nice fire going last night and through the day, but Luke needs his fire.. (SORRY neighbors!)

It has warmed up a little! Thankfully, the wind has dried out some of the mud up here on the hill. Tomorrow is looking like sunny and shorts weather again!

Well it has been a long tiring day! We are headed in for a hot shower.. well hot when the water is on and then freezing when you turn it off to wash up! I don’t mind camper showers turning water on and off.. until it is cold out.. then I’m done! I need a furnace vent blowing down into the shower!! 🥶

SUNDAY

Good Morning! Yay! ☀️The sun is shining and it is warming up quickly!! Looking like a great day to hang out at the track a little longer.. you see as the year goes on, and the countdown to putting the camper into winter storage sneaks up on us … we stay at the track later and later! Soaking up the hours of outdoors knowing the winter blues are real!

It doesn‘t even feel like fall today!! 🥰

We end up staying to watch some of the pro bike race as well! Hayden says I know where we can go watch….we head over to the woods section to the right in the pic above.

Hayden, should I put my boots on!? I have flip flops on.. No mom, you’ll be good.. I wore my crocs out there earlier! Why in the world would I ever think it was a good idea to listen to my 10 year old son on appropriate footwear 🤪🤦🏼‍♀️…. yea definitely should of had boots!

He drug us up this mountain side to watch the pros go trough this mud pit .. it was really neat, but it was not easy climbing up a rocky muddy hill in fip flops! 😅 I got this!

What we aren’t going back the trail we just came!? No we can go this way it’ll be better… ok sure let’s go… umm… there‘s no trail/path this way!? Yea but I know where I’m going…..

Yep you bet... I just slid my butt down off of this straight up and down hill or mountain I don’t even know.. in my flip flops 🤪! Ok now we are down off the hill.. we’re in the clear 😅…

That’s a huge high wall… isn‘t that the side we need to be on!? Up there on top and we are way down here!? ummm… maybe.. we’ll just keep walking this way.. we can go back up the hill down a little further…

Down here in the bottom… all that rain…trees..creek running through here.. no sunshine hitting.. yep you guessed it.. I’m tramping through here as the mud squishes between my toes and over my feet.. that’s what you get when you listen to Hayden! 😂

Hayden, ”It’s ok mom, when you get across here we just have to go back up this hill! I can see the top .. alright..

Oh wait there’s 2 lines pro bikes are racing …cross the barb wire fence between the 2 lines 😅 Yea they are all at the top waiting on me… I’m coming! I always get nervous crossing the track when you can’t see real good!

😅Made it to the top and there’s the field we are camping in! We just did all that and I can see where we entered the woods from where we exited! 😂

That was all worth it for the fun and memories with the kids.. they thought it was great! 🩴 For the win!

The camper is all packed up and we are ready to head home to prepare for the last camping trip and GNCC of 2021!! Trying to stay in that top 10 for the year..it is close!

On the road again…cya soon!
