GNCC is returning to our home state of Ohio! September is flying by as we get ready to head out for Round 11 of the 2021 GNCC the Burr Oak in Millfield, OH!

Thursday evening the camper is loaded and ready to go! David gets to take the camper tonight while I get to stay home with all 3 kids?! I’m pretty sure I can pull a camper!! He trust me to pull the trailer but has never let me try the camper!? 🤔I’m thinking tonight is a good time to try it!

Anyway.. I’m keeping the kids at home so they can go to school tomorrow. There‘s a lot of Friday’s they miss school for racing and the week for Florida/Georgia races. So anytime we can make it work that they don’t have to miss we make do! The boys aren’t happy either, of coarse they want to be at the track!

David gets to the track, a downpour, thunderstorm rolls through right before they open the gates! 😳 The dirt here in Ohio is either dry and so dusty you can’t see, or wet and super slick, get stuck kinda mud. David was really hoping to be parked before the rain hit.. He says I’m heading in.. BUT I’m parking wherever I can, not trying to get the spot we really like to. It is a mess now! Ya’ll know he cleaned the truck and camper before he left.. 😳

After you enter and go down the hill there’s a nice flat field he pulls into with other race friends.. soon as he stops he’s stuck. Eventually others help out and he gets moved enough to get leveled up, and that’s where we are for the weekend! Blocked in by a dozer that he was told would be moved 😒. Kinda sounds like I’m glad I got to stay home for this part!

Oh well, could be worse, it’s really not a bad place to camp just hate that we are blocked in.. thankfully we are in Ohio, a short drive from home so we can stay longer… I Know we won‘t be getting out until late Sunday.

That’s just me and my nurse mentality.. kinda similar to being claustrophobic, when I’m blocked in with our camper & truck. Thankfully I’ll have my vehicle there as well so if there would be an emergency we are covered!

FRIDAY

Rise and Shine for school boys! 😫 but MOM!! Yes, you have to get your school day in, and then we‘ll be on our way to the track!!

7:50am dropped the boys off for school.. Lynlee and I are headed home to get ready, finish packing the things we couldn’t pack..

ree

She loves the outdoors just like all of us! Dressed in her fall race gear… Let’s go GNCC racing!! 🏁

1:30pm we pick up the boys a little early!

Once again, I don’t have food in the camper .. I said it was loaded and ready but mainly just the bikes and clothes! 🤦🏼‍♀️ It’s ok I’m not grocery shopping with 3 kiddos today! We did a Walmart pick up order in Athens.. only about 20 mins from the track. Pick up orders have saved me a LOT of time this year!!

3:30pm we roll into the track! First thing Hayden needs to check out the track. It has rained so much the track is a mess right now.. but hopefully it’s dried out some with the sun today.

Friends have said many have broken their derailleur on their e-bikes due to the mud... maybe they should just walk the track!?

Oh no we don’t want to walk all those miles in the mud.. it looks like it’s dried up from this morning.. we’ll try it on bikes…

ree

That didn‘t last long…derailleur broke.. but it took them a while to get back pushing it through the mud for almost a mile! Should of taken the others advice and just walked it!!

David went to the Specialized tent to see if they had parts to fix it .. they don‘t keep giant bike parts in stock.. didn‘t figure, but it was worth asking. The bike is parked for the weekend.. David and Hayden are off to walk the track! I guess this is why I decided to pick the boys up early!

It is now like 7:30pm I think… I’m wanting to make supper, but like for David to be back to help with sis.. maybe they are lost in the woods!?

Finally! There they come!!

Hayden says ”dad wanted to quit, said we did enough of it, but I made him do the whole thing!” 😂😂 David says “Yes, we walked the entire track in all the mudd!“ Mom says it’ll pay off tomorrow 😉

The track is going to be a slick greasy one tomorrow! Hayden’s favorite races are mudd races so let’s pray that pays off!!

We are in early to rest up for tomorrow!

Our pre-race prep to prevent what happened at the Mountaineer… let’s see if this makes a difference!

ree

Back to having his peanut butter oatmeal for supper the night before! We want a good start to finish tomorrow at one of Hayden’s favorite tracks to race! GOODNIGHT💤

SATURDAY

7:00AM GOOD MORNING IT IS RACE DAY!! It’s a little chilly this morning.. a little cloudy.. but perfect weather for racing!

Grandma Kay and Grandpa Brian made it this morning! We are standing at turn 2 today.. with the stroller it was easier than tying to go clear around to turn 1.

My view of the start with the pre-race music: 🎵

Hayden and David walk over to check out the track in the turns and into the woods.. doesn’t look too bad but greasy for sure!

Back go the line race ready!

ree

9:30am we are getting started right on time! The prayer and National Anthem .. and Teeeennn Seconds!!

😳😳😳😳😳 I am freaking out.. at first all I can see is their helmets.. the bright orange helmet is out front!!? HOLY SHIT! I’m not gonna lie that’s what came yelling out.. can’t tell ya why or even if I knew what I was saying, or what was happening, but you can clearly hear it in my video 😂! (sorry didn‘t share that one)

Turn 1 he’s out front 😳 I’m more scared than any other race!! So excited but so scared all at the same time!! All while yelling “GO HAYDEN, GO HAYDEN!”

Hayden misses the whole shot by less than a tire as the red quad came up beside him.. the red quad spun out and Hayden took off into the woods first!!! WOW!! So exciting after all these taking off last starts! Like I don’t even care where he finishes today, that start just won my day!

David runs over.. a quick yes that was awesome!!❤️ ..and he’s off on the bike to find a section to check up on Hayden.

Stacy Mundy Photography catches the start!

I pick up my phone to instantly call Heidi.. they have decided to be finished with GNCC racing for the year ☹️.. we understand, BUT we really wish they were here this morning!! They understand our excitement!! Whoops she’s at work today 🤦🏼‍♀️ lol.. ok you get back to work and I’ll try to come back to reality the race has just started.. ahh who am I kidding…I’m just going to stay on my high of my #721 finally got his first awesome start in the youth! 🤩

My parents, Luke, Lynlee and I head over to the woods just passed the start to wait for Hayden to come through.. it’ll be at least 10 minutes before he comes through.. we watch for the blue square (signifying his class) on the helmets to start rolling through..

…..well there’s 1 blue helmet.. there’s 2… and 3 … and 4… 5, 6, 7,8,9,10,11,12…😭 seriously .. lap 1!? …. ring ring.. David.. oh no… my stomach does a flip!

David: Hey.. just wanted to let you know he’ll be coming, but he’s dead last now .. he was cruising by me.. don’t really know what happened but said he hit a tree and he was fine .. kept going didn‘t stop! Man.. I was really hoping he was due for a clean race... he works so hard but there’s always something this year!! It’s ok ..only lap 1, thankfully he’s not hurt and still in the race! Well I’m hoping he‘s telling the truth and he‘s not hurt but there’s no way to know what happened at this point! 🥺

Well there comes a 150.. already lapped him 😔.. a few more go by … there comes Hayden! Go buddy go! He’s flyin by!

Lap 1 he checked in 20th out of 21..3 minutes 37 seconds behind 19th.

David says he’s racing awesome especially with it being so slick. A good many quads that took off after him at the start he had to work his way around to get back with his class..

Lap 2 checks in 17th.. clean lap!

ree

We head over to the finish now so we can check scoring.. it’s not working on the live. And I like to let David know when the white flag is out.

Lap 3 checks in 16th.. another clean lap.. he’s lovin’ the track! White flag is out lap 4 will likely be his last lap!

Lap 4 another clean lap! Finishes 14th out of 21! Not the finish he wanted after getting out front at the start, but thankful to finish without injuries and had a great time out on the track! AND after the last 2 rounds off GNCC .. our main goal was to finish the race!

We all run over to make sure he really is ok and we need to know what happened that first lap!????

ree

Hayden’s story and GoPro coverage: 1 quad had passed him a little ways in, but he was still riding 2nd.. he went around a turn a little to fast for the greasy track.. his back tire caught a tree throwing the quad off the track over a bank into 3 trees that stopped him. 😩 They aren‘t huge trees, but not small enough to run them over, or break them off.

You can see him get off his quad and try to push it backwards.. it doesn’t move.. he’s yelling for help! Meanwhile one of the trees were small enough he was able to bend it down or his adrenaline from being so mad gave him the mometum to get one down! There were still 2 more holding him up..He kept trying to get out until finally.. once again this year the track sweep came to the rescue! He’s probably got the label of #721TreeCrasher at this point! About 5 minute hold up here. Quite a bit of time to make up in an hour race! THANK YOU to the track sweep for saving #721 again!

Back to the camper to cool down… and Grandma Kay brought one of Hayden and Luke‘s favorite, chocolate pie!

ree

We have supper cooking in the crock pot this time! We learned our lesson earlier this year with Luke racing Saturday evenings.. something that cooks in 10 minutes or all day in the crock pot!

What’s in the crock pot!? It is officially fall now so I brought out the soup recipes! Stuffed Pepper soup tonight!

My plan here was to share my recipe for my Stuffed Pepper soup.. However, I apologize, I am writing this 4 months later, and I have no idea what I put in it!! 😔

I’ll never make it the same twice! I do often put 2 or 3 recipes together plus my own tweaks.. so that being said in 2022 I am adding a new food blog! Camping recipes, baking recipe…. whatever I make during our adventures will be linked into my Full Throttle Blog!

Anyway back to the Burr Oak! Our soup is cooking .. the pro race just started! David and Hayden took off into the woods to watch somewhere that Hayden had picked out.. maybe some rocky area?

My parents, Luke, Lynlee and I walk over to watch a small section in the woods .. there‘s a slick hill they are sliding as the go up, interesting to watch!

David and Hayden return and we all walk over to the FMF Powerpoint to watch. My parents have never walked into the woods to watch the pros yet .. interesting! All of us except Hayden stay at the bottom of the hill to watch. Of coarse Hayden is on the hillside getting in the action!

There is a few parents and kids that are checking out these vines hanging down to swing on 😳… OH Hayden don‘t be getting on there (he can‘t hear us at all, but we can clearly see him) … A few of the adults tug on it and swing on it first. It seems to be sturdy.. AND there Hayden goes for a swing!

I couldn‘t get a video today as we were too far away to get a video..oh but there is a video tomorrow from the top!

We watch for a bit then head back to the camper to get dinner before Luke‘s race tonight!

and then we are off to us watch Luke race his Stacyc!

ree

They get to race 5 laps as 5 year olds! There is a little more time as the eMTB races are done for the season, they let them line up again to take off for 5 more laps!

After round 2 starts…The announcer: “Where are they going go pit for a battery change, we a didn‘t think this through…will they make it?!” 😂

Great Job 5 year olds!! They were lovin‘ all the crowd cheering them on!

Back to the camper for the evening.. more fire time..taking it easy after an exhausting day!!💤

SUNDAY

Good Morning!! ☀️ The sun shining bright! Looks like a beautiful day!!

The boys haven‘t had many chances to watch the pro dirt bikes this year since they don’t race until Sunday, 1:00pm-4:00pm.. we are close to home so we are staying to watch today! Normally we are watching it on racer TV as we are driving home.

We have race friends that race the 10am bikes.. the boys watch some of their race too!

Meanwhile, David and I cleaned up the camper and started packing so that we could head out once we were ready.

Lynlee is soaking up the sun enjoying her bowl of snacks ..

ree

We all walked to FMF powerpoint to watch the pro bikes.. this time Hayden took us up the road then up a trail over into the woods so we would come in at the top of the powerpoint hill rather than trying to climb it from the bottom which is very steep!

Almost to the top… 😅

ree

Yes, this is the area they were swinging on the vines.. and there is more joining in the fun today…

Pictures don’t show how steep it really is!

ree

It is almost 4:00pm and round 11 will be done! Today has been a nice relaxing day at the track with so much needed sunshine!

BUT

It is time to head home so we can start cleaning up … Round 12 is now less than 2 weeks away!

..and we are on the road again… it is David‘s turn! The boys are riding home with him and Lynlee will be ready for a nap💤 I’ll just cruise behind!

ree

See you again soon! GNCC will be returning to West Virginia for the Buckwheat 100!
