Hoosier GNCC 2022 - May

Now it is the first week of May, school is almost done for summer! ☀️

We are headed a whole different direction this week, no mountains, no turnpike.. a lot of flat farm land, racing out in the cornfields of Indiana!

We are west bound as we head out for round 6 of the 2022 GNCC series, the Hoosier at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana!

THURSDAY

It is Thursday so the boys are at school and I am doing the usual.. loading the final things into the camper!

Ok we are into May now.. the weather.. calling for a 1/2 inch of rain tomorrow.. ☔️😒 Yes, temps are cooler with the rain, still looking like 50s… Rain Jackets and lots of extra clothes!! If it would be 80, we would be out dancing in the rain!! Well to be honest the kids will be out in the rain.. Looking like a repeat of Ironman in fall 2021! MUDFEST!

4:30pm we are on the road, camper is loaded down with more clothes than anything else.. ok and a few bikes. We are in for a 5 hour drive this evening.

Yes, it is raining as we are driving.. not too bad at least it isn’t windy storms! There is a good bit of traffic this evening, always so many semi’s traveling on this interstate.

Only stop once for fuel and thank goodness because diesel is $$.. well over $5.00/gallon!! Grab super, then on the road hoping to get in through the gates tonight!

10:30PM We made it! The gates are open! Our race friends have space in the field behind them, it is dark and difficult to see where it is too muddy, people are getting hung up as they pull in. Thankful for race friends that explain to us how to stay on the gravel roads and pull in .. nice and flat here, pretty simple set up!

By the time we all shower and get settled in for bed it is 1:00AM!

FRIDAY

Well it is cold and rainy this morning so we are sleeping in! Ahh.. who am I kidding we always sleep in on Fridays at the track 🤣 Those are the only days we get to sleep in in our lives!

9:00AM.. we are well rested!.. Looks like the rain has stopped.. hopefully it holds off long enough to cook our breakfast.. Bacon, eggs, potatoes, onions and peppers 😋

Cold and dreary today! BUT good news is.. the rest of the weekend is looking great!! The sun is coming back so let’s just make it through the day!! ☀️☀️

Well we made it through breakfast… David and Hayden take off to walk the track, no e-bikes on this today! .... and it’s not done..the rain is coming back!!

A bridge crossing in the track shows some of the mud!!

Due to the mud they set up pro pits a little different so they are in the back .. the youth get to run beside it with all the American flags waving.. Hayden thinks that is neat!

While they are out walking the track, Luke, Lynlee and I are hanging out in the camper.. staying warm and dry!

there is David and Hayden walking the track out front of the camper.. Luke goes over to join them for the rest of it.. Hayden takes his rain jacket off .. and ..

maybe 15 minutes later… the rain is back.. pouring! Glad we brought those rain jackets!! 🤪 Yea, those boys are coming back soaked.. that’s ok I prepared for it!

1:00pm Lynlee and I are tired of camper sitting so we grab blankets and out we go!

I’d rather have my white legs out here getting sunburned, but we can’t pick the weather! Sorry, I keep complaining about being cold, but really..we are 6 races in, been in the south 5 times and I still don’t have a tan out of it! 😜

Ok I’ve complained enough about all the cold races this year so let’s discuss some positives!? … no reason to fix your hair or make up!.. most things stay packed inside the camper.. easy clean up! …

2:30pm the boys have returned, soaked and muddy, underwear and all! Change of clothes and hang out in the camper while the rain comes down..

I had fixed them up a power snack for the afternoon.. Hayden’s famous peanut butter balls..

..5 can’t fit on our 3 seater couch… The boys usually hang in the garage.. all the bikes are still in and wet clothes are hanging all around.. so we all end up in our bed..

Yay! Looks like there’s a break in the rain again!! Outside!!

We get the stroller out for Lynlee girl.. head out for a walk over to registration, through vendor row, back to pro pits, then back to our camper.. made a big circle to check it all out.

Super on the grill.. while I’m cooking there‘s an RV that tried to pull in behind us.. didn’t make if clear off the road.. they tried pulling it with UTV, truck, and then finally the dozer shows up to save the day..

I am standing in the garage of my camper looking out the window here.. there’s a camper directly behind us too.. anyway.. after a few hours of sitting they finally get set up.

I baked brownies to go with our vanilla ice cream tonight.. Hayden says he needs cake/brownies and ice cream before a race day now 🤨.. Ohk.. if you think that’s what did it then we’ll just go with it.. 😂

I dunno who enjoyed the brownies more here…

..yea that’s Luke in his Christmas Jammies… he wears them year around!

I know.. brownies and ice cream before bed not the best choice but 🤷🏼‍♀️! The boys will go to bed and sleep.. it’s this girl that shouldn’t have chocolate, sugary, brownies before bedtime! 🤪I’m not real sure how she got so much brownie!? Did I really do that right now !?

Ok well that’s a wrap for today, we are going to see if we can get to sleep!! They are calling for more rain tonight.. David is debating on racing at all.. 😬

SATURDAY

Good morning!! It is Race day! Sun is shining ☀️only 50s but warming up quickly! Thankfully, it did NOT rain last night like it originally called for! Still going to be a muddy race, the top layer is slimy for sure!

8:30am the usual.. Hayden is off to the start ..ready to go!

8:45am We are all packed up with our goodies, walking to the start with the double stroller. It’s not too far maybe 5-10 minute walk.

Look how bright it is out here today!! It’s going to be a beautiful afternoon!!

Tomorrow is mother’s day.. Hayden says he’ll get top 3 for me.. We’ll see!!

Say prayer… The National Anthem.. and Teeeennnnn Seconds!! The ATV 125 (8-12) is off!

Hayden takes off 6-7th into the woods..checked in 7th at 2 minutes into the race!

He came up on a bottleneck that he was able to get around a few making his way through the pack!

Came around for lap 2 checking in 1st!! 😱

These two just hang out eating for the entire hour of the race..and collecting sticks for a fire later tonight. Yep, Luke has trained Lynlee to help him 😂 I can’t believe I missed a picture of the stroller overflowing with sticks!

Here we go.. this makes me super nervous.. excited, but we all know this is early in the race and a lot can happen.. so prayers he stays safe and rides clean!

Continued to ride out front checking in 1st with a total of 6 laps!!

Hayden says he was able to ride the flow of the track and was having a good time out there!

Finished 1st out of 14 in his class and a 27th out of 139 overall! Awesome race!

We were so excited to run over when he pulled off the track .. I missed the fist pump pic after he saw the #1 - 721 scan onto the scoring!!

That made my mothers day weekend! ❤️

That helmet had quite a few pounds added to it!!!

Hayden met quite a few goals this race:

#1 got a top 5 he’s been determined to get since round 1 this year!

#2 got his first podium in a GNCC youth class!

#3 Won his first ever national race!

Turned out to be a beautiful day and the track wasn’t as bad as we expected.. not saying there weren’t bad spots because there were .. but all the rain we expected worse..

Everyone that makes racing possible!

All that excitement… running around.. waiting those last minutes that seemed forever worked up some major hunger!! To the camper for lunch!!

We stop to check with our race friends to see how they all finished today! It was an awesome weekend of racing for all of our kiddos!! Many podiums today!

I missed the WXC today.. I am cooking grilled pizza sandwiches and slicing up cucumbers for lunch.

David is pressure washing the race bike off .. that’s a little much mudd to put it back in the hauler... I’m watching the fresh tank lights making sure he don’t use all my water!! It gets to 1/3 and you‘re done!!

The sun is warming up so nicely!! Put the deck down on the camper and chill in the chairs..Lynlee is contained.. lunch is done..now time for coffee!

I can see enough of the track from the deck to watch the pros roll through.. Fowler is the leader and Neal is right on his tail!

AND then.. here comes another RV and trailer tried to pull in behind us and gets stuck, back out and try again.. they run right up to our back deck.. well there goes any view of the track I had 😒 Now we are completely enclosed by campers.

Lynlee needs a nap anyway.. put her in the stroller and head up towards the finish.

It has been a heated race between Fowler and Neal again! .. It’s going to be the finish before we know who’s gonna take home the win today…

Next up… #210 Luke Bettinger has decided it is a nice day to race!... let’s go Stacyc racing!!

and the 6 year olds are off!!

Luke had a great time out there with his friends! BUT that was long enough..

Time for fire & Smores!!

Did someone say CHOCOLATE? MARSHMALLOWS!? …

Lynlee girl will fight for chocolate.. I dunno why she would love chocolate so much!? 🤔 Pretty sure.. “Choc Chip” was on the list first 5 words spoken! 😂..

SUNDAY

Good morning! The weather today.. even better than yesterday!! Sun is shining, warm..a quick breakfast the pack up to head home..

Yogurt bowl 😋 Granola, Greek Yogurt, Fresh Strawberries, and of coarse we would add dark chocolate chips.. Maybe more than a serving…

Today is Mother’s Day! 😉

10:00AM we are packed up and on the road..

We drive most of the way..a little over an hour from home..we stop by the Buckeye Lake Brewery and Chef Shack for Mother’s day .. late lunch, early supper!?

Enjoyed a glass of wine after an awesome weekend of racing!!

Well.. that’s a wrap for the Hoosier 2022!!! We’ll be back real soon in our home state of Ohio for the Penton!!
