Here we are the 2nd weekend of March, off to the General, round 3 of the 2022 GNCC!
We’ve been away from home for 7 days now! It’s been quite a trip! A lot of fun, some unexpected bumps, but we got through it! Now let’s pray for a good safe race this weekend.. and that maybe the weather men are wrong about the freezing temps and high winds coming through!
THURSDAY
We left Creekfire Resort in Savannah Georgia a little after noon today. About a 2 hour 50 minute drive.
I had the camper pretty stocked with food, but we are about empty now. We stop at Wal-Mart in Thompson about 20-25 minutes out from the track.
Oh my, have the temps changed in that little bit of a drive! We still have our shorts on 🥶! We get in the camper to get sweat shirts at least for now.
Yes, I have to take the entire family into Wal-Mart.. this should be fun!
an hour later.. I survived .. Hopefully we’ll be good, we only have tonight, tomorrow, & Saturday before we head back home!
5:00PM we arrive at the track..

We did get a nice area trackside! I am glad with the sounds of the temperatures and the clothes we have with us.. we are likely going to be spending a lot of time in the camper!

Besides setting up.. we didn’t get into much this evening!
GOODNIGHT 💤
FRIDAY
Good Morning!! It is cool out this morning, but it’s not raining or too windy yet.. It’s coming this evening!! Saturday night it is going to be in the 20s at night 🥶😳 .. doesn’t sound too fun in a camper with our summer clothes! Good thing we brought the kids sleeping bags and I have a stock of extra blankets!
I had jackets, winter hats, and gloves to pack with us.. but I left them after David talked me into it. We had so much packed with 5 of us and so many days.. Every time we’ve been to the Georgia race it is hot and sweaty..When we left a week ago it was supposed to be in the 70s, ok I’ll leave it. Bad idea 😒 next time I’m brining it ALL, winter, spring, and summer clothes ALL of it! Carharts, Snow boots, swimsuits, flip flops, rain jackets, I mean all of it!
Well it’s nice enough to cook a breakfast skillet on the blackstone, better do it today, last chance on this trip!

Meanwhile David is working on the swing arm of the race bike…

The bearings are bad.. Thankfully Hetrick Racing had the parts we needed at their trailer. David was going to do it, but he didn’t have the best tools with him to do it in a timely manner. Chris Crull with Precision Racing was across the road from us; David carried the swing arm over, and he had the tools to get the bearings changed out quickly! Thank You all for your help!
David gets the quad back together and good to go for tomorrow‘s race!
During all of that Hayden has been gone.. and now David is ready to go ride the track with him.. where is he!? He always tells us where he is going, checks in, and is usually with one of our race friends nearby.
No one has seen him for a bit.. David takes off on the e-bike, he’s probably up at the kids bicycle track riding around, or riding his bike around vendor row/pro pits. Nope not here…
I have Lynlee in the carrier going for a walk.. we know quite a few
people around now.. He could be at a race friends camper and lost track of time?
David and I have circled the entire place, called his friends phone, they haven’t seen him, David stopped by the another race friend’s camper they haven’t seen him…
Race friends ask, would he be out riding the track? Well maybe, but he always does the track with David and if he does it extra with a friend, he would tell us that is where he is going..
It’s now been at least 3 hours since we’ve seen Hayden.. and we don’t remember him telling us he was going anywhere we haven’t checked .. I’m getting nervous at this point as he knows he has to check out the track and it’s going to be dark soon! Time doesn’t change until tomorrow night.. 😳🤯
Our race friends are all on the lookout.. then finally I am going to the GNCC officials to let them know Hayden is missing so they can announce it.
As I’m ready to head that way the Dickerson’s call to let us know they see him riding his bike back from the start towards our camper.. he is coming up the main road..
I’m not even waiting on him to get to the camper as I stomp up through the field to the road 😤 but also just glad to know he is ok .. as a nurse and a mom, I’ve thought he’s wrecked his e-bike somewhere and they could be looking for his parents, he decided to ride some of the track and got lost in the woods, and the list just goes on …
Hayden sees us coming towards him.. he can tell mom and dad are NOT happy! Sorry to his race friend that witnessed the madness and had no idea why Hayden was in trouble, wasn’t your fault!
Do you have any idea how long we’ve been looking for you? Any idea how scared we are? Where have you been?
Well he was biking the track with his race friend that rode in his class last year. They were taking their time, stopping and going. Hayden was asking questions to help him out.
Was he doing anything wrong, besides lack of communication, no he wasn’t, that was a great idea.. why didn’t you at least call us to let us know? (Hayden doesn’t have a phone but his friend did, Hayden didn’t ask to call)
He tells us they were just talking then he ask Hayden to go ride the track with him. Hayden knew that would help him, and he didn’t think they would be gone that many hours doing the track.
Lessons learned, and hopefully prevented in the future! Happy Friday.. there went our afternoon!
Anyway.. now he has to go bike the track again with David!
Luke has been having the best time playing with friends, building a huge fire with the neighbors. Luke and his friends have been gathering limbs & sticks from the woods nearby to keep the fire going! Doesn’t even notice his brother hasn’t been seen…
I don’t even have any pictures of the fun he had as we spent the afternoon searching for his brother!😒 Thankfully our race friends took care of Luke and gave him cookies for gathering the wood.
It’s been getting colder throughout the day and the winds are picking up. It isn’t late but tomorrow is RACE DAY so we are inside bundled up keeping warm early this evening!!
GOODNIGHT!! 💤
SATURDAY
Good Morning! It is race day.. and not the perfect weather kind of race day! Like one of the worst race days we’ve had for a GNCC.. low 40s with 18-22mph winds that make the temp feel like 30s.. It rained throughout the night meaning mud mud & a lot more mud everywhere you go!
🌬🥶🌧
We came up with the plan for me to ride Hayden’s e-bike with sis in the carrier over to the start, and Luke on his Stayc.. Because we have no stroller AND the start here is ridiculously far..literately has to be a mile or even further I dunno! so far you can’t walk from the start to finish pushing 2 kids and see any of the race.
and the pit traffic and vehicles on the one dirt road to the start is insane, everyone is in a hurry to get back and forth..people beeping horns, ebikes, sorry GNCC I don’t have many complaints about your series.. you do a pretty awesome job.. especially at trying to keep people safe..BUT Seriously the start here is so insane for us that have kids to get back and forth and try to watch our kiddo that is out there.. What happened to the start by the entrance!?
It currently feels like 30s, and the wind is ferocious! David rides Lynlee out on his bike. It wasn’t terrible on the way out… we made it! Fingers FROZE because we don’t have our gloves.. we all have on 2 pairs of pants, 2 sweat shirts layered, luckily we have our boots!
We are out in the open up on this hill for the start.. OH MY the wind is so much worse .. I’m keeping Lynlee tucked down in the carrier, I did still have her winter hat in diaper bag 😅.
9:15am we finally made it to the start after 20 minutes.. OH MY! The wind up here is way worse than when we left the camper!! This is terrible for Lynlee and Luke.. even myself, I am frozen! 🥶
9:40am.. running a little behind..ok it happens.. they announce they will be ready in a few moments.. moments!? how about seconds!? …. please be seconds!
We did the prayer and national anthem so we are good to start once the track is cleared from the previous mud race…

Hayden is ready to race! He’s ready to get moving to stay warm..
10:00AM we are finally cleared and ready to start! Normally, I don‘t mind at all if they are running behind it is what it is.. Today I have Luke and Lynlee both crying.. and Luke is freezing..I think Lynlee has to be warm being against me in the carrier, but she wants out of it. There’s no way I can do that..once they start we have to bike it clear back to the camper!
Finally, Teeeeennn Seconds!!! and the ATV 125 (8-12) are off here at the Generall GNCC!
#721 is 2nd around turn 1!! Then had to take it a little far on the outside ..
was slid into a tire on the inside of turn 2, quickly restarted..
going into turn 3 a quad was sidways causing a pile up!
Got going again and was rear-ended by another quad.. they get off their quads to get them apart. and FINALLY off into the woods.. not quite last but ALMOST!
Kids.. this isn’t a DERBY!? NO ONE going to make it to the finish safely riding like this!! 😓
Stacy Mundy Photography caught most of the derby action..
Shortly after getting into the woods there is a huge bottleneck.. Hayden is looking for a way around but it’s so wet and muddy he’s afraid to go very far off track and really be stuck.
Quite a few quads are stuck here for a while.. looking at lap times we would guess he was stuck here for 10-11 minutes! That really puts a damper on getting a top 5 finish for today, right from the start.
BUT Hayden, he was out there to have a good time and fly through the mud, making the best of the time he had on the track.. he continued to race his best and never gave up!
Hayden has the determination and perserverance to meet his goals for sure, this showed me how bad he wants to get a win!
David and I aren’t quitters.. but guess what? I couldn’t stay out in that today.. for the first time since Hayden started racing I went back to the camper with Luke and Lynlee to watch from the live scoring. We are track side, but the youth track did not run through here.
After riding with 2 kids back the road from the start, riding towards the freezing wind, trying to get through all the people. Lynlee’s head is hanging down because I have her facing me rather than face forward in the wind. I’m trying to secure her as I ride the bike.. I’m sure some people are like what are you doing!? I’m trying.. Trying to keep all my kids safe.. and be there to watch my racer!
I dunno which is worse right now.. Luke is beside me on his Stacyc crying, “I can’t make it, it’s too cold on my fingers!“ Tears are rolling down his face, I feel like a terrible mom for dragging them to the start.. Originally thinking we would only be there 15-20 minutes, but then a 30 minute late start made it 50 minutes of us standing on a hill in the wind 🥶
.. we were miserable to say the least! It took us about 25-30 minutes of Hayden’s 1 hour race to get back to the camper.
Back to the race details.. as we are on our way back to the camper.. Hayden checked in 16th for lap 1… which we were expecting him go be closer to last..
David says he’s checked in 13th for lap 2! and he seems to be riding pretty good considering the conditions!
We’ve made it back to the camper and getting warmer now! Got the GNCC live scoring pulled up waiting to see it flash red that Hayden has checked in!
Lap 3 he checks in 11th! Well looks like he might not be clear out for a top 10 at least! Of coarse we are striving for some top 5‘s and podiums, but keeping in the top 10 is a must!
I’m really hating sitting inside the camper on the couch waiting.. this isn’t my thing I like to be out there! But Luke is so happy and thanking me for letting him come back to the camper so I don’t regret it.. it’s hard to make them all happy!
and finally here he comes for the checkered flag finishing 10th out of 21 in his class!! 75th out of 143 overall!

He is soaking wet, mud covered, with a smile on his face!
More awesome photos from Stacy Mundy! Thankfully she got multiples today since we didn’t get any!
Results from GNCC Racing

Hayden is back to the camper to get warm dry clothes! He is wet clear through, undies and all.. water pours out of his race boots!
He said, “mom I tried what you said, when my fingers were stinging cold, I kept telling myself I’m not cold, keep going, I’m not cold!” and it worked! 😉❤️
He’s changed into dry clothes and back outside to watch the AM ATV’s!
I do love that most of the time my kids don’t let the weather ruin their day! It is nice to remember as a kid the weather doesn’t matter you go outside and do what you can!
Lynlee girl and I are watching for the WXC to come by.. 📣 Traci Pickens & Jessica Elioff!

It looks so nice outside!! Trust me it is not as pretty as it looks! … look at this guy here for the real life feel! 😂

I mean if I was outside I’d be wrapping up in a tarp too! Not kidding!
After 2 hours of racing Hannah Hunter takes the win with Traci Pickens in 2nd!! Elioff in 4th!
The coldness won’t keep him inside too long!
And the Afternoon ATV race with the XC1.. We watch them come around for the first lap from inside nice and warm!…
… “woa McGill!” I should of turned the camera back.. as McGill came around the turn he almost went over the handle bars!
Then boys decide to brave the weather and head into the woods.. find a place that blocks the wind!

They found a really narely spot that was interesting to watch! A lot getting high centered and stuck..
😬 Yikes! …
After 2 hours of racing… Fowler takes the win!! Hunter Hart in 2nd and Brycen Neal 3rd.
It is getting colder as the day goes on.. the wind hasn’t settled any.. we are all done for the day.. in the camper by 5:30pm with no plans on going back outside!!
Luke.. he’s a fair weather racer! … Race #3 he’s skipping out on us again..! However, this time I am so glad he doesn’t want to! 🤫
”I’m not racing in that cold wind, my bike probly won’t go in that mud, it’ll just break it!” 🤣
7:00pm We are all hanging out on the couch when we decide we might as well pack up and head home. None of us want to drive 9 hours straight tomorrow.
I start to make sure the kids are all showered and packing up the inside of the camper. Meanwhile David packs up outside and straps down all the bikes/ATVs in the hauler.
We are all showered, cleaned up and ready to head home! Temps are in the 30s and going into the 20s 🥶! Not our kind of camping weather..

8:35PM we are rollin’ outta here, north bound for home!!
12:30am We drove about 4 hours to Statesville, NC for the night. Parked in a Wal-Mart parking lot ready for sleep!!! ….
ummm… Nope not yet.. It’s 42 degrees in the camper🥶..and with it being 23 degrees outside, it’s not gonna warm up real quick… turn the furnace on and wait in the warm truck….
an hour later it’s finally 55 degrees … still feels really cold .. but we need sleep! Bundle up in all the blankets!!
I don’t believe we’ve stayed in our camper in colder temps than low 40s maybe a high 30…..Our bed is in the back slide.. I’m positive I can still see my breath in here! 🥶🥶 Seriously so cold!
Another hour or 2 later I think it made it to 66!! and I don’t believe the furnace ever shut off all night!
We finally got warm in the early morning and slept until 8:30am.. now I don’t want to get out of my bed! but I do want to get to my warm home asap!
Waffles for breakfast in the Wal-Mart parking lot this am!

We are about 5 hours from home! When we get home there’s going to be snow on the ground! 😬… Hopefully our road will be cleared off enough we can get the camper to our house!
Yes, the sun was shinning bright and melted the snow quickly!
Well it has been quite a week!! So much fun and so many things that didn’t go as planned BUT overall a great family trip! Hopefully the not so good is a good lesson for my kids, plans change, and things happen; it’s how you work together to figure it out and make the best of the situations! Being angry, doesn’t fix things!
We have 1 weekend off to clean up and get ready for the Tiger Run! We’ll be back soon!! Until then .. roll on!
