Yay!! It is June!! 😎 School is out for summer!! We’ve been home for 6 out of 7 weekends!? First, we had a 3 week break between races, and then our oldest, Hayden displaced his clavicle.. So.. another 3 weeks home and no racing adventures for a bit.. Sounds like it’s time for a camping adventure!!
Lynlee girl is turning 2 on June 8th! I think we should base this trip on birthday fun for her! Right now she seems to love animals.. fuel prices are still spiraling out of control at $6.00+/gallon for diesel 😒 so we would like to stay closer to home.
The farm wagon ride at Walnut Creek! Lynlee would love the wagon with horses pulling it. Luke is sure to love it too. Hayden can’t do a whole lot with his restrictions, a campground with a pool to swim would be good for him.
David calls up Evergreen Park in Dundee, OH. We stayed here a few years ago in the fall and loved the campground cleanliness, ammenities, and proximity to many kid friendly attractions.
A few attractions near by:
The Farm at Walnut Creek - 12 miles
Country Acres Mini Golf - 11 miles
Amish Country Theater - 13 miles
Lynn Drive Inn Movies - 9.4 miles
Berlin - 12 miles
Sugarcreek - 21 miles
Keep in mind these are all Amish Country roads! not 11 miles down the interstate lol!
Evergreen is currently booked for the first weekend in June (we are calling about 2 weeks in advance), they do have a cancellation list to add our names to! We get on the list and decide to wait it out .. the last time we tried this we were able to get in after a few days!
I think it was 2-3 days later we get a call that they have an opening, Lot 42! Yay!
FRIDAY
Good Morning!! We finish the last of the packing, and then 12:30pm we are hooked up and on the road!
We’ve had a busy few weeks at home and as I mentioned above, fuel prices continue to climb, so I didn’t make a special trip to get food prior to our trip. We can stop at Aldi in New Philidelphia to stock up for the weekend. Yes, the boys are in the backseat..
Why do we have to stop, why didn’t we get food before we left.. Mom you’ll be in there for hours!
I mean traveling has become our lifestyle boys, and having food is part of surviving … I know I usually have it together BUT sometimes.. it’s ok not to .. and it’s ok to just go with it..
oh, but if I didn’t stop there would still be complaining…
What, mom we don’t have anything in here to eat... where’s the cookies!? We don’t have any snacks.. What we don’t have milk for cereal!?
I’m sure you all hear the same things too! ..Do they ever just know that is part of the trip and don’t complain!? I’m guessing no.. but please don’t spoil the hope I have left! 😊
2:30PM we made it! ☀️Bright sunny day looking like a beautiful weekend!

Lots are paved, easy hook ups, and pretty level, we did use 1 board on the back side.
20 minutes and the boys are ready to swim!
I lay out frozen rolls to make pizza rolls on the blackstone for the kids dinner. Never tried them on the grill before as I usually have these made before we leave.. we will see how they turn out later!
Evergreen has an indoor only pool area.. it does have several doors and a ceiling they open. We wanted the indoor pool this trip not knowing if it would be too cold to swim outdoors with the crazy weather we’ve had all spring!

and the hot tub 🥰

Lynlee is a waterbug too… she’s ready to jump in!

Don’t smile…. don’t do it!
It’s a nice relaxing few hours of swimming.. now we are all hungry.. ready for dinner!
Luke wants a fire and S’more’s .. Surprised!? Haha, I know, an every night occasion for Luke that never gets old! 🔥

We love the lots on this side of the campground.. you can see, behind is an open field for the kids to have a little more space to run off all their energy!
I thought I snapped a pic of my pepperoni rolls on the blackstone.. 🤔 Anyway, they turned out awesome!!! Will do again!
If interested in trying them:
I turned the blackstone one the lowest heat, coated with a thin layer of olive oil, and placed the rolls filled with pepperoni & cheese directly on the griddle. Closed the lid, 9-10 minutes and then flip them all. Cook another 9-10 minutes.. I started checking around 7, some were done in areas the griddle is hotter.
An then we cooked chicken fajitas for David and I. They were 🤤 with plenty left over to warm up tomorrow!
Click for recipe: Creamy Chicken Fajitas
Cooke smore’s over the fire for dessert and that’s a wrap for today!
GOODNIGHT💤
SATURDAY
Good Morning!! Rise and Shine!! We have a quick breakfast - my homemade waffles that we froze, greek yogurt, and strawberries! 😋
By 10:00am we are off to the Farm at Walnut Creek!

Starting with the wagon ride through the fields of animals, thinking Lynlee will love feeding the animals!

Luke had a great time feeding animals.. BUT Lynlee wasn’t sure about those tongues coming at her!

She was all for feeding the deer from a distance!

We enjoyed our wagon ride and had a nice family conversation with the 83 year old Amish man that drove the wagon!

I tried but I couldn’t get us all.. and no Lynlee isn’t mad.. that’s just her everyday face😂
Strolled through the birds and fish ponds… Hayden & Lynlee wanted to chase the birds..
We were able to see a few of the Koi fish jump up out of the water!

By that time the boys head to the Main farmhouse..they remember there is free chocolate chip cookies! ..as we are reminding them.. You only take one!

Luke & Lynlee found chairs to sit and enjoy their cookies.
And then we head over to the ”Dawdy” house where Hayden and David found a package of Buckeyes they had to purchase! … They were half gone before we got to the donkey barn..

Walk on over past the garden, to the barn with donkeys, and then over to the goat barn..

Everyone is getting hungry and ready for a late lunch.. early dinner.. !? We check out a few other animals on the way back to the parking lot..

We head into Berlin to eat, find coffee, and Luke is on the lookout for watermelon seeds to plant at home!

Boyd and Wurthmann Restaurant is perfect for lunch! The special today is chicken salad sandwiches.. chicken salad always wins David and I’s favorite lunch!
The kids are so easy to feed in Amish Country.. Noodles, mashed potatoes, grilled cheese …they can all have a little of everything! One place I don’t mind taking my kids out to eat.. they bring fresh homemade bread right out.. peanut butter spread.. that keeps my kids happy until they get their food! .. One of the only places we get good food, good service, and happy kids!
I walk on up the street to Ginger House to get my daily coffee!

My coffee wasn’t bad, but sorry Red Mug has my win for coffee Amish Country Area..
And then we are off to find Luke watermelon seeds!

We found watermelon seeds at Country Gatherings the Gardens!!
This is one of my favorite shops to stroll around in.. such a pretty relaxing shop!
Ok, the kids are hot.. Lynlee needs a nap or the evening will not be so glorious .. it’ll be torcherous! .. time to head back to Evergreen!! The boys are ready for the pool.
2:30pm We‘re back to the camper.. kids throw on their swim trunks and off to the pool!
Surprisingly the pool is empty!! We expected it would be busy… What a nice surprise!!
Another few hours of a nice relaxing swim we are ready for a fire and dinner… all of us EXCEPT Hayden..
He wants to swim for hours and hours, as that is the only thing he can kind of do right now.. I say kind of because... he can’t jump in or truly swim, he can’t raise his right arm above his shoulder. At least he can float around, throw the soft water balls around, and search for dive sticks.
We head back to the camper to get a fire going.. but first Lynlee wants bike ride..

She loves her new seat!! Much better than the carrier with her size!! We need a helmet for her not sure why we didn’t get one on the way.. 😬 Mom fail! So they won’t be going very fast! and a helmet before next trip for sure!
Lynlee only napped for about 30 minutes earlier, and she was up and at it.. failed plan! Therefore, I let her have the ipad for a few, I don’t like her to have it much at all at her age.. but long enough to get through warming up our supper..

Meanwhile, Luke has been stacking up the wood for a fire.. and setting up the pieces he wants David to split..

And I sat down before warming up supper.. so once the fire is going Luke is calling for smore’s! .. better get the food ready before we go eating dessert!!

My favorite kind of summer nights.. eating dinner around the fire!
and once we are done cooking smore’s on the fire, Luke and Hayden throw in the color changers!

Well that’s a wrap for today! Time for showers and a good nights rest!!
GOODNIGHT💤
SUNDAY
Good Morning!! Rise and Shine, today is a day of rest! ☀️ Well what we consider resting compared to most days! Sun is shining, another beautiful day.. and the best part is, no plans! Just hang out at the campground, eat, swim, take a walk, enjoy the sunshine!
Breakfast skillet is cooking… rolls are laid out to make the boys more pepperoni rolls for lunch..
Most campers are packing up to head home today.. David took a vacation day so we could stay 1 more night! … our kind of camping.. when the campground empties out!

Most of the afternoon is spent at the pool again…

Luke met a friend his age to swim with… they had a great time jumping in and driving around the pool on noodles!

We’ve enjoyed just hanging out at the pool.. easy to keep all 3 entertained and not be going 100 mile an hour all day long!
After a few hours we make them take a break... Hayden and Luke want to go for a night swim so we have to agree on a break.. we can’t swim for 10 hours!
Lunch was already prepared before we went swimming, just grab and eat kind of foods!
Luke’s friend Dominic, was camping across the road from us, Luke is hanging out at their camper a little bit and then his friend comes to our camper a little while.. keeping them entertained is easy!
It’s nice just to sit in my lounge chair and soak up the sun.. I would say get a tan, but it is like get a burn, peal, and be white again! Here I am out with my SPF 70 Sport sunscreen 😂 parked in the neighbors lot to get in the sun..

… about an hour later.. here comes a camper .. right beside us of coarse! No more sun for me.. my legs are already pink.. they are saving me from a burn I’m sure!
Hayden is so bored .. we didn’t bring his bike.. he can’t ride it.. there’s nothing to do .. I know it stinks but that is what happens when you get hurt.. have to get healed to enjoy the rest of summer!
I don’t know why I couldn’t being my play station!? Nothing else to do!
Well, David and I have a rule, a rule that I plan to stick to and no exceptions! So far so good and I really hope we never break it!
NO PLAYSTATIONS OR GAMING DURING CAMPING STAYS OR VACATIONS, DON’T ASK THE ANSWER IS NO!
He does have an ipod we let him bring, but he has no Wifi 😂🤷🏼♀️..
You can sit and talk with us! … you can walk around the campground.. find a friend!
And the next thing I see…
stole his sisters bike.. just trying to get a hurt again! Can’t even yell at this point.. he knows the consequences if he hurts his shoulder again! 😒
Our lot #42

And then we are off for a night swim!

Luke and his friend Dominic
A part of camping that we all enjoy.. meeting new people from all around that usually have the same interest as us!
We head back to the camper for the night… 10pm .. is it too late for Apple Pie Quesadillas!?
Sorry, I don’t really have a recipe for this, just threw it together with what I had! I did plan on frying them on the grill, but it is late and cooled off a good bit outside so, inside we are.
I can tell you I put a little butter in the skillet, honeycrisp apples, sprinkled in a little brown sugar, cinnamon, and a sprinkle of GF flour to thicken it.. once it simmered 5-10 minutes I poured it into a bowl so I could place tortillas in the skillet, fill them, fry them just until browned. 😋😋 and don’t forget the vanilla ice cream go with it!
That’s all for tonight!!
GOODNIGHT💤
MONDAY
GOOD MORNING!! ☀️ Sun is shining for now! It won’t be long and the rain will be moving in! That’s ok, we are heading home today!
While David emptied tanks and finished packing up the outside Hayden and I walked over to the Red Tomato Market!
There is a concrete sidewalk from the corner of the campground that takes you to the main road, you can cross the road, and walk down a sidewalk to the Amish market! Maybe a 5-10 minute walk.
I didn’t realize this was here before! You could easily do your grocery shopping here if you don’t have time before! I believe this is considered to be in Mt. Eaton.

We picked up a few items to take home with us, and walked back to the campground. We can see the rain clouds getting closer!
I bet you can’t guess what Hayden picked out… ok so there’s Amish baked goods: fry pies, cookies, brownies all that.. Hayden picks a plastic tub of Smarties.. I mean I said he could pick something but I was hoping for something other than Smarties, who would of thought!
He’s helping mom out by not getting the high sugar gluten containing foods, so no argument!
We snapped a few other photos from around the campground before heading home.. As you can see they hold to their name, so many evergreens surrounding the park!
The Arcade, in the building with the indoor pool:
and we are on the road headed for home!! 2 more weeks and hopefully Hayden will get a good ortho report and we’ll make it back to the last GNCC before summer break!
See you soon! Enjoy your summer!
